In an independently-administered 2002
community survey, 78% of respondents stated support for the
proposed village at the corner of Corral de Tierra Road and Highway
68. Over a third of the mailed surveys were completed and returned,
demonstrating the community’s tremendous interest in the project.
Today, 59% of the community drives to Salinas to shop, with the
balance driving to Monterey Peninsula to meet everyday needs. The average
household estimates that it would save four to seven vehicle trips per week
by shopping at home in Corral de Tierra—reducing traffic on Highway
68 by at least 12,000 trips per week.
